Enrolment / Eligibility

Enrolment at SAS is based on a student’s disability and associated educational needs. Subject to capacity, student intake may be at any stage of the year, providing the student is of school age and satisfies the eligibility criteria.

Students seeking to enrol must have:

 Autism Spectrum Disorder

  1.  A diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (made by either a psychiatrist or a paediatrician); and

  2. Significant deficits in adaptive behaviour established by a composite score of two standard deviations or more below the mean on an approved standardised test of adaptive behaviour, (for example a Comprehensive Teacher Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scale composite score of 70 or below); and

  3. Significant deficits in language skills established by a comprehensive speech pathology assessment demonstrating language skills equivalent to a composite score of two standard deviations or more below the mean, (for example a core language score of 70 or below on one of the recommended comprehensive language tests administered by a Speech Pathologist).

For your child to go on the waitlist you will need to provide the following information.

  1. Confirm that you reside in the Designated Transport Area (DTA). To find this out click on the following link: https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/dta_search . This will confirm that you are in the correct DTA for our school.

  2. A formal letter of diagnosis from a paediatrican or a psychiatrist.

  3. A current (within 12 months) Comprehensive Teacher Vineland assessment (sometimes called adaptive behaviour composite) which has been signed by a psychologist with a score of 70 or below.

  4. A multi-disciplinary diagnosis from a psychologist and a speech therapist.

  5. A current (within 12 months) comprehensive language test administered by a Speech Pathologist with a core language score of 70 or below .

    Accepted speech assessments are:

    1. PLS-5

    2. CELF-P2

    3. CELF-5

    4. TOLD-P:5

    5. TOLD-P:4

    6. TOLD-I:5

    7. TOLD-I:4

If you do not have a current Speech Assessment and Teacher Vineland Assessment please contact your local mainstream government school and they can assist you with this process. Please note that we will be unable to proceed with your enrolment query unless all documentation has been supplied and meets the enrolment criteria.
